Mario Macaruso was born in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Mario was born underweight and spent some time under the bilirubin lights to help with a low iron levels. Little did anyone know this iron imbalance would help drive Mario towards being a coach who passionately promotes the lifting of iron kettlebells at Donkey Label Training every day. Mario excelled in athletics as a boy, achieving multiple Varsity letters in Cross Country and Golf. In the winter you could find Mario competing in Alpine and Nordic ski races and snowboarding as much as possible. After High School Mario attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis Minnesota where he received a BA with a double Major in English and Psychology. Mario played Collegiate golf on the Nationally ranked Augie Men’s Golf team his Freshman and Sophomore year. Mario quickly became passionate about bicycling. He found a specific love for Criterium racing as it suited his physical build. Mario Raced bicycles for 7 years moving up to USCF category 2. Mario currently rides his bike almost every day and participates in a few competitive events annually. Recently, Mario has devoted himself to mastering and teaching Strongfirst Kettlebells. Mario was certified as SFG level 1 in 2019 and taught for a year at IronFlow Training. He currently teaches kettlebells and mobility at Donkey Label Training in Minneapolis. Mario believes that with the practice of foundational strength with kettlebells, focus on proper breathing and use of proper form, anyone can find their strength.
